Copiers and printers in general are not designed to print to the max duty cycle each month.
Follow the recommended print volume.

Upgrades Available for the Xerox VersaLink C405
The Xerox VersaLink C405 comes with additional upgrades for purchase to increase the functioning capacity of the machine.
Paper Trays and Optional Stand

If you or your business goes through several reams of paper each month, the extra storage might be something to look into. A printer stand can also be added, to hold extra paper or other supplies.
Paper Tray Cost: $299 each
Stand Cost: $284
High-Capacity Paper Feeder
If you don’t want to change the paper out as often, a high-capacity paper feeder can hold an extra 550 sheets, for an additional $299.
Wireless Network Adapter
For $49, a wireless network adapter can be purchased for your machine allowing it to integrate seamlessly into your current wireless network for easier accessibility and printing.
Pros and Cons of the VersaLink C405
Some key benefits associated with the VersaLink C405 would be its small size, and how easily it fits into a home office or tight workspace. It also has fast printing speeds (36 prints per minute), and is overall a robust and reliable machine that can perform consistently.
This machine has limited printing sizes, with a maximum of 8.5x14in, and when using the 14in. paper, users have found that the tray tends to stick out of the front and is very cumbersome. There are also a lack of finishing options, and only one option for a high-capacity feeder.
Who is this Machine a Good Fit For?
This machine would be a good fit for a personal or small-sized home office. Because of its smaller recommended print volume, it would also function well for small business enterprise environments, such as personal cubicles. A good workgroup size would be from 1-5.
Other comparable models that would also function well for these groups would be the VersaLink B405 (for black and white printing needs), the VersaLink C400 (if you don’t need a scanner), or the VersaLink C505 (for a little heavier workload).

Who is this Machine Not a Good Fit For?
Because the Xerox VersaLink C405 is such a reliable and versatile model, many companies make the mistake of thinking they can run their entire office on just one of these machines, which is unfortunately not the case. It shouldn’t function as the primary copier for a larger business, and while it’s a good machine to have in the office to serve as a backup to keep things running, it’s definitely meant for personal or small business use.
VersaLink C405 Cost
The upfront cost for the VersaLink C405 is $699. Of course, this can vary with the additional upgrades available for purchase. For more information regarding costs, we recommend checking out our blog "How Much Does Leasing/Purchasing a Copier Cost?"
The Xerox VersaLink C405 Gets 5 Stars
Overall, the Xerox VersaLink C405 is a high-functioning and reliable machine for workgroups of about 1-5. It’s fast, efficient, and comes with the advanced ConnectKey software available on larger machines as well. It doesn’t take up much space in the office, and if the recommended print volume is adhered to, doesn’t run into many problems.
